The Greater London Women’s Football League Premier Division title push has been a tight three-horse race all season.
CCFC, in second, and Islington Borough, in third, have both pushed Bromley all the way right up to the end.
But now Bromley just need a point from their final game at home to Comets on Sunday to seal the title, although their goal difference means it’s realistically in the bag already. Congratulations to them, worthy champions.
That means the Tons and Boro are battling it out for second spot. A win for us will seal the second spot, while a draw or defeat will mean it goes to the final day the following Sunday.
Promotion doesn’t rest on finishing second – it’s not automatic and you may remember three clubs went up last season, including Dulwich Hamlet Reserves down in fifth.
However, finishing as runners-up will no doubt help our promotion application, not to mention another great achievement in an amazing season.
Islington have the division’s best away record, winning every game on the road this season except at Bromley.
Our head-to-head record is won 1, drawn 1, lost 2, so Islington have the edge in previous meetings too.
Boro are our nearest rivals geographically too and our previous meetings have been high scoring – 22 goals in four games
Earlier this season we played out a hard-fought 3-3 draw away at Islington’s home pitch, St Aloysius Playing Fields in Highgate
Last season, a superb performance saw us grab a great 3-1 win, but the season before it was two defeats, 3-2 and 4-3.
There’s shared history going back before then, though, with both teams having risen up the divisions when CCFC’s team was called AFC Stoke Newington.
Fixture clash
Agonisingly there is clash of big fixtures for Tons fans on this day.
The men’s first team take on Kensington Dragons in the Alec Smith Premier Cup final at Uxbridge at 3pm.

Clapton CFC vs Islington Borough is on Sunday, May 8 2022 at 2pm at the Stray Dog, Wadham Lodge, Kitchener Road, Walthamstow.
Advanced tickets are not needed, you can just turn up. Entry as usual is free but with donations welcome, with a suggested £3 for waged adults.

Directions
- Wadham Lodge is about 20 minutes walk from Walthamstow Central station. Turn onto Hoe Street and follow the road all the way along (past the junction with The Bell pub) until Chingford Lane. Continue past Sir George Monoux 6th Form College and take the first right onto Brookscroft Road then left onto Kitchener Road.
- You can catch a bus along that route too. The 357, 34, 97, 215 will all take you to the top of Brookscroft Road from Walthamstow Central. It will take 12-25 minutes.
- There’s also car parking space available at the ground but it may be better to park on a street nearby.
