Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy

Clapton Community Football Club believes that football should be for everyone. We aim to create a safe and a welcoming environment where everyone can enjoy football and the club’s social activities free from discrimination, harassment and abuse.

As members we agree to respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person and agree to treat everyone fairly regardless of age, ability, gender, race including migration status, ethnicity, religious belief, sexuality or class/economic status. This requires all members including players, coaches, staff and volunteers to be willing to further mutual understanding and respect for all people and to challenge discrimination.

Whilst the club’s ethos is football should be for everyone and football can break down artificial barriers, we recognise that this view is often not shared across wider society. Many individuals and groups face barriers and discrimination and prejudice can exist within all communities, including our own. Therefore, as members we agree to own how we act and speak and to listen and reflect when challenged so we can unlearn our own prejudices.

Clapton Community Football Club is committed to taking positive action where inequalities exist. Our Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Strategy will set out the steps we will take to reduce discrimination and prejudice and promote equality of opportunity through a system of continuous improvement. These steps will form an action plan which includes but is not limited to:

  • Inclusive governance of our committees
  • Education and awareness for members, including players, coaches, staff and volunteers
  • Local community engagement to encourage greater participation from underrepresented groups
  • Regular monitoring and evaluation of the action plan

If you experience discrimination or prejudice at Clapton Community Football Club please refer to our members’ accountability agreement for guidance on what you can do. Our members’ accountability agreement is a condition of club membership.

Overall responsibility for implementing this policy lies with the Club’s General Organising Committee. This policy applies to every Clapton Community Football Club member, including players, coaches, staff and volunteers without exception.
