Edgware Town vs Clapton CFC preview: Women’s first team in cup quarter-final

The Clapton Community FC women’s first team are still fighting on three fronts with a John Greenacre Memorial Trophy game next up on Sunday, April 2.

This is the league cup competition for teams in our own Greater London Women’s Football League Premier Division and in the First Division below.

We’re now at the quarter-final stage after a bye, a walkover win over South East Parakeets and a dramatic penalty shoot-out win over QPR Reserves.

The Lions meanwhile have beaten Headstone Manor and East London Laces in the tournament so far.

Having been promoted alongside Headstone, Bromley, Sutton United U23 and Walton Casuals Reserves, Edgware have adjusted well to the next level up.

Our league meetings have been close, with a last-minute winner from Maria Mendonca giving us a 2-1 home win in February.

Our away game may have looked like a seemingly routine win, but the hosts caused us plenty of problems despite the 4-0 win.

So we’ll have to be at the top of our game to reach the semi-final.

Match information

Edgware Town vs Clapton CFC is at 2pm on Sunday, April 3 at Silver Jubilee Park Stadium, Townsend Lane, NW9 7NE

The nearest station is Hendon (National Rail, Zone 2/3), which is about 20 minutes walk away, after a short 15 minute train journey from St Pancras. Alternatively Kingsbury (Jubilee Line, Zone 4) is about a 25 minute walk.

They also have a large car park.
