Dangerous Characters film screening and director Q&A

Associazione Nazionale Partigiani d’Italia and Clapton CFC present a screening of Alfio Bernabei’s award-winning Channel 4 documentary Dangerous Characters on the anti-fascists who opposed Mussolini within the Italian community in the United Kingdom.

In 1922, the fascists rose to power in Italy. In Britain, only a handful raised the alarm, while most of the Italian community stood aside or actively organised to support his regime.

‘Dangerous Characters’ by Alfio Bernabei tells the story of those who never bowed to Fascism, but also the history of how the Italians in London reacted to the regime.

Includes a Q&A with the director Bernabei, who is also author of a 2022 book The Summer Before Tomorrow on the little known opposition of Welsh dock workers to the arrival of ship full of Italian fascists.

Free entry. Book your space on Eventbrite and share the Facebook event.

Easton Cowboys & Cowgirls film screening and discussion

During the Men’s World Cup, Clapton Punks will be working with The London Action Resource Center (LARC) to run a series of alternative F**K FIFA events.

The first event coincides with the opening ceremony and match of the World Cup on Sunday.

Instead of watching that, you can instead come to the Old Spotted Dog clubhouse for an afternoon and evening with Bristol’s finest Easton Cowgirls who will be showing films and doing a Q and A.

The Easton Cowgirls and Cowboys are an amateur sports club who have a long tradition of activism, intrepid trips abroad to play football, and hell raising. They are an inspiration for what can be achieved through football.

The event starts at 4pm so if you’re attending the women’s first team trip away to Headstone Manor in the Capital Cup (1pm kick off) you can make it afterwards.

The Easton Cowgirls and Cowboys are amateur sports club who have a long tradition of activism, intrepid trips abroad to play football, and of course beer drinking and hell raising. They are a fixture on the antifa football tournament scene and are an inspiration for what can be achieved through football.
