Ashmount Leigh vs Clapton CFC preview: Women’s first team on the road to Surrey

Ashmount Leigh vs Clapton CFC is on Sunday, March 10 at 3.30pm at Meadowbank Football Ground, Mill Lane, Dorking, Surrey RH4 1DX

After a blank weekend, the Clapton CFC women’s first team are back action as they head to Surrey to take on Ashmount Leigh.

CCFC have won five wins out of the last six league games, including a hard-fought comeback home win against Ashmount Leigh in December. That run has moved us up to an impressive third place, although leaders Sport London E Benfica are threatening to run away with the top spot and one promotion place.

This will be our third visit to Dorking Wanderers’ Meadowbank Stadium where we’ve played well but lost twice before, including in the Capital Women’s Cup Final.

The opposition

Ashmount Leigh was set up in 2021 due to the lack of opportunities for women who wished to train in a professional setting in and around Surrey. They have had two promotions on the bounce, including last season winning 20 of their 21 league matches, with 120 goals scored and just 19 conceded, to win the Surrey Premier Division, as well as the League Cup. Originally based in the village Nutfield in Surrey, they’ve moved to groundshare at Dorking Wanderers’ ground this season. The Ashmount name was inspired by the chair and vice-chair’s college in the United States with Leigh in honour of the grandfather of their club secretary.

Previous meetings

In a very close home fixture in December, Clapton CFC came from behind late on to win 2-1 with goals from Teju Callisto and Marta Casanovas.

Form guide

Ashmount have notched up good wins against Brentford, Camden & Islington United and Richmond Park, as well as some eye-catching cup performances this season.
