Clapton CFC defender Carl Paul steps up to become player-coach

Experienced defender Carl Paul has been promoted to player-coach for the men’s first team and development team.

The 34-year-old has made over 50 appearances for the club across those teams, including a crucial role last season when both were promoted. He has also played at higher levels for the likes of Barnet, Maidenhead United and Halesowen Town.

Men’s first team player-manager Geoff Ocran said:

Carl’s experience and knowledge of the game was a great asset in the double promotion season.

One of his specific areas of focus will be coaching and mentoring the young defenders across both teams as they adjust to Step 6 football.

Gems of advice from someone who has been there and done it further up the pyramid will not only improve them physically but also the mental side of the game which is very important.

This is a well-deserved promotion and some recognition for someone who has contributed a lot to the club on and off the field recently with more to come.

Carl becomes part of the coaching set-up and will work alongside Geoff, Sham Darr, Ridhwaan Yusuf, Jack Mellors and Matt Bailey (men’s first team) and Jon Akaly and Tom Marsland (men’s development team).
