Clapton CFC fell to a home defeat to a clinical Camden Town side in front of the team’s biggest crowd for 18 months.
CCFC’s chances against a Camden side – who have won all their games this season without conceding – was made harder with some key personnel missing, including Marta Boiro, Julia Moulton and Flo Hobbes.
Camden pressed high from the opening whistle and CCFC goalkeeper Ella Bowles was straight into the thick of the action early on. When beaten, Egle Trezzi produced a miraculous goal-line clearance to keep the scoreline level.
Clapton were digging deep, defending resolutely and searching for counter-attacking opportunities. However, the visitors’ pressure eventually told in the 28th minute when a beautiful ball split the defence for Camden to fire home the opening goal.
Two minutes later, Trezzi’s free-kick required a fine save to prevent an instant equaliser. Back at the other end, Bowles kept CCFC in the contest, making a superb point-blank block in the 31st minute.
Just as half-time drew near, Camden claimed a crucial second goal when a low cross was inadvertently turned into the net by Annie Lyons for own goal. Bowles pulled off a sensational double save in stoppage time to prevent further damage before the half-time whistle.
Clapton were forced to reshuffle their already depleted squad at the break, with Trezzi forced off with a quad injury. It was pretty much game over just two minutes after the restart with a superb goal extend Camden’s lead to 3–0. In the 61st minute, Camden capitalised again to make it 4–0.
Clapton continued to battle hard and their work fighting spirit was hailed by the 437 crowd, the biggest since Brentford’s visit in March 2025.
