Match report // Actonians Res 3 Clapton CFC Women’s First Team 1 // 19.10.25

The Clapton CFC Women’s First Team fell to a 3–1 defeat in the drizzle at Actonians Reserves despite a bright start and an early lead.

CCFC adapted quickly and took the game to the high-flying hosts, who are unbeaten at home this season. After missing several chances, we eventually opened the scoring in the 17th minute after a slick team move. Kaylee Shurety slipped the ball down the right to Marta Casanovas, whose low cross found Maria Mendonca arriving perfectly to slot home from close range.

We looked in command – but Actonians equalised shortly after on 27 minutes when a clearance hit Holly Reid and bounced into the net.

Undeterred, Clapton came close to regaining the lead before the break — Egle Trezzi’s free kick forced a fine save, with Julia Moulton’s header from the resulting corner narrowly over.

However, the second half was a different game, as the home side took control with a great display of speed, slick passing, composure. Two quickfire goals from the division’s top scorer Katy Hanscomb on 55 and 58 minutes swung the game firmly in their favour.

Despite plenty of effort, rotation of subs and formation changes, Clapton couldn’t get back into the game, and indeed Actonians looked more likely to score again.
