Denham United vs Clapton CFC preview: Women’s first team back to league action

Denham United vs Clapton Community FC takes place at 2pm on Sunday, February 25 2024 at The Den, Oxford Road, New Denham, Uxbridge UB9 4DW.

Clapton CFC go back to league action this Sunday, heading west for an away fixture at Denham United.

The injury-hit CCFC side were deservedly beaten 3-0 by Tooting Bec last weekend in the Capital Cup quarter-final, which means we are concentrating on the league. We’re sat third in the table, with Denham just one place and one point behind, so there’s plenty to still play for.

Please note there will be a pitch inspection at 10.30am on Sunday.

The opposition

Denham United is one of the largest dedicated all female football clubs in England. They have teams ranging from U9s to seniors, along with a development side for girls age 7+ and like us have their own ground – The Den, in Uxbridge. The first team spent eight seasons in the FA Women’s National League Division 1 South, two levels above, but are now back in the sixth tier.

Previous meetings

The two teams met earlier in the season at the Old Spotted Dog Ground in the league cup, with our visitors winning a thriller 5-4. In last season’s games, however, CCFC won both, firstly a 2-0 win away then 4-1 in our first competitive win at the Old Spotted Dog Ground. At the end of the season though, Denham finished one place and one point ahead in the table.

Form guide

Denham currently sit 4th in the 11-team league table with 21 points from 13 games. They’ve won their last two games, against AFC Whyteleafe (who recently beat us) and Ashmount Leigh (who ran us really close). They also made it through qualifying to the first round of the FA Cup, before falling narrowly to higher division Millwall Lionesses.

Players to watch

Jenny Nagle, one of the top scorers in the division last season with 20 goals, has carried on with 14 goals in 14 games in 2023/24.

Admission

Entry is free, and Denham United have a bar with refreshments also available.

However, The Den is a dog free zone, so your furry friends will not be able to tick this one off on their groundhopping maps.
