Ashford United vs Clapton CFC preview: Women’s first team in cup final at Maidstone United

Clapton CFC are in the final of the London & South East Regional Women’s Football League Trophy this Sunday.

Ciara Robinson‘s extra-time goal was enough for a dramatic 1-0 win over Newhaven in March and set up a rematch with Ashford United, who knocked us out of the Women’s FA Cup this season.

Our opponents are set for promotion from the sixth to the fifth tier having won an amazing 15 of their 16 league games this season.

Since becoming affiliated with Ashford United, they have gone from crowds as low as 4 to sometimes over 200. So there should be a decent crowd following both sides at the neutral venue.

In this trophy, CCFC previously beat AFC Acorns at home 1-0 and then Eastbourne United in extra time away at the seaside.

Ashford meanwhile knocked out Richmond Park, Leatherhead, Bexhill United and Montpelier Villa to reach the final.
