Pitshanger Dynamo vs Clapton CFC preview: Five games left for men’s first team

After two postponed away games and an Easter break, the Clapton CFC men’s first team will hopefully return to action this Saturday at Pitshanger Dynamo.

The CCFC team – who will be buoyed from the news that they can begin playing home games at the Old Spotted Dog Ground – need two wins from five games to seal top spot. We await the report on whether we’ve passed the ground grading that would also mean promotion.

We have hit the top of the Middlesex County Football League Premier Division with just one defeat and two draws all season. But Pitshanger Dynamo are up in fourth place themselves and are unbeaten at home since October. They’ve had a win and a draw against two of the other high-flyers Shepherd’s Bush and Indian Gymkhana.

It’s been an amazing turnaround as last season they received a relegation reprieve after finishing second bottom. Amazingly, it’s largely the same squad, with just a handful of key new additions, including Anguilla international striker Kyle Lake-Bryan.

In our previous meeting with Pitshanger Dynamo this season in January, we ground out a 1-0 win in a game switched to the 3G at Wadham Lodge due to the wintry weather. Pitshanger enjoyed the lion’s share of the ball with their captain Greg Miley in particular outstanding. However, Greg Moorse scored an early goal for CCFC and our defence held firm.

Last season in our head-to-head meetings it was a win apiece, with a 3-2 win on the Stray Dog pitch but a fairly miserable 1-0 loss away towards the end of the season.

This season they’ve moved into Brentham FC’s pitch at the Brentham Club, after that club’s first team pulled out of the league.
