Directions to Wadham Lodge Stadium and the Stray Dog

For the 2020/21 season, the Clapton CFC men’s team will once again play at the Wadham Lodge Stadium and the women’s team at the Stray Dog.

Both these grounds are on the same site – operated by Match Day Centres on behalf of the Wadham Lodge Sports Trust charity.

The address for both grounds is: Match Day Centres, Wadham Lodge Sports Ground, Kitchener Road, Walthamstow, London E17 4JP.

How to get here

By public transport

It is about 20 minutes’ walk from Walthamstow Central station, which is on the Victoria Underground and London Overground lines.

Walthamstow Queens Road, on a different London Overground line, is next door to Walthamstow Central.

From Walthamstow Central, turn onto Hoe Street and follow the road all the way along (past the junction with The Bell pub) until Chingford Lane.

Continue past Sir George Monoux 6th Form College and take the first right onto Brookscroft Road then left onto Kitchener Road.

You can catch a bus along that route too, which will take about 12 minutes.

The 357, 34, 97, 215 buses will all take you to the top of Brookscroft Road from Walthamstow Central.

By car

The postcode for your satnav is E17 4LL.

Do not try to enter from Brookscroft Road as a barrier will prevent you turning right and reaching the ground.

There is plenty of free car parking space available at the ground. Please use the right hand side of the car park.

About the Stray Dog

The Stray Dog (aka the Wadham Lodge Intermediate Pitch) is on the left as you enter the car park.

The unofficial name was chosen in a poll of Clapton CFC members ahead of our debut season in the Middlesex County Football League.

It features one temporary scaffolding undercover stand along one side of the pitch, with standing on three sides. There is no seating.

For 2018/19, our men’s team played on the Stray Dog and won the league and cup double.

For 2019/20, our women’s team took over, playing on the Stray Dog on Sundays at 2pm in the Greater London Women’s Football League.

The pitch is also in use on Saturdays, shared by Hale End Athletic (Amateur Football Combination) and Ryan FC (Essex Olympian League).

About the Wadham Lodge Stadium

The Wadham Lodge Stadium is at the far end of the car park, to the side of the building with the bar inside.

The stadium features one main stand on one side, with 200 seats, plus covered terracing behind each goal. There is also a small uncovered terrace.

Our men’s team share the Wadham Lodge Stadium with Walthamstow FC of the Essex Senior League.

Admission prices

Admission to all our games – men’s and women’s – is free. However, donations are welcome, with a suggested £3 for waged adults.

Facilities

On both grounds there will usually be a pitchside bar selling cans of lager, cider and soft drinks. We will usually have a hot food stall vendor too.

The toilets and main bar – selling a fuller range of draft beers and more – are in the main building in the car park.

Please note we do not sell the food or drink ourselves.

We often hold a foodbank collection, but it’s not guaranteed. We will confirm this in our match preview articles.
