Sport London e Benfica vs Clapton CFC preview: Women’s first team face tough trip after draw

It’s the women’s first team’s debut visit to Sport London e Benfica on Sunday – coming weeks after the first meeting of the clubs at the Old Spotted Dog Ground.

Sunday’s surroundings will be familiar for many though as SL Benfica play at Rectory Park in Northolt – where our men’s first team are visiting 24 hours earlier to play Shepherd’s Bush.

These teams are hard to separate including the goalless draw at the OSD in January. Clapton CFC have lost only one away game all season, and SL Benfica have only lost one at home.

Last Sunday, both teams won cup ties against higher division opponents. CCFC beat AFC Acorns 1-0 while SL Benfica knocked out Aylesford 2-1.

Clapton CFC women’s first team are top of the league although title favourites Dorking Wanderers can go five points clear if they win their games in hand.

SL Benfica are exactly half-way up the table in sixth, in their second season at this level, having finished seventh last time our.

Rectory Park is the Middlesex FA’s multi-pitch facility and on the neighbouring pitch at the same time, it’s a tier 4 game between Actonians vs AFC Wimbledon.
