It’s East London derby time on Sunday as Clapton CFC face our nearest rivals/friends from Hackney WFC.
After the disappointment of exiting the Women’s FA Cup last weekend, it’s time to concentrate on the league and try to start moving up the table.
We will be returning to our old stamping ground of Wadham Lodge in Walthamstow to play on the 3G pitch. Note the later than usual kick off time of 3.30pm.
About the opposition
Hackney WFC was the first totally women-run team and the first out lesbian team in the country, at a time of Thatcher and section 28. The club celebrates its 40th anniversary next week with a big party. Their kit includes the club’s slogan, ‘Playing with Pride since 1986’.
Due to a lack of grounds in the borough of Hackney, they currently play home games at Wadham Lodge in Walthamstow. Their Reserves and our Reserves are in the same division too.

Last season we won 2-0 away thanks to goals from Maria Mendonca and Marta Boiro.
In the home game, it was an exciting 3-3 draw thanks to goals from Lucy Spours, Egle Trezzi and Boiro again.

Wadham Lodge is a 31 minute walk from Walthamstow Central station. Turn onto Hoe Street and follow the road all the way along (past the junction with The Bell pub) until Chingford Lane. Continue past Sir George Monoux 6th Form College and take the first right onto Brookscroft Road then left onto Kitchener Road.
