Match report // Lymore Gardens 1 Clapton CFC Men’s First Team 3 // 20.03.26

Friday night lights at Redbridge FC saw Clapton CFC Men’s First Team seal a win against play-off rivals Lymore Gardens and extend the unbeaten run to 15 games.

CCFC made a strong start and Fred Taylor came agonisingly close to an opener in the 17th minute, rattling the crossbar with a curling left-footed effort from the edge of the area.

The breakthrough arrived in the 26th minute when the ever-dangerous Louis Brown was tripped inside the box. Taylor stepped up and made no mistake, firing low to the goalkeeper’s right.

The joy was short-lived, however. Just three minutes later, Lymore Gardens were back on level terms. A miscommunication in the CCFC backline allowed Joshua Morris space in the area, and he smashed a fierce shot past Jack Francis.

In the 39th minute, CCFC restored the lead with a goal of genuine quality. Louis Brown dispossessed a Lymore defender with his back to goal, turned sharply, and unleashed a magnificent curling strike from distance that arched perfectly into the top corner.

The second half proved to be a disjointed affair. Lymore remained dangerous on the break, but CCFC’s defence held firm under pressure.

As the game entered a lengthy period of stoppage time, CCFC finally put the result beyond doubt. Substitute Joel Akuwudike showed tenacity down the left wing to find Nathan Cook, who arrived late in the box to smash the ball into the roof of the net.
