Clapton CFC Men’s First Team fell to a deserved heavy 4–1 defeat away at Cannons Wood to bring an end to a run of four away wins in a row.
The home side started brightly in the rain on the 3G at Aveley, boosted by the presence of ex-CCFC favourite Noah Adejokun on the wing.
However, Clapton also carved out a couple of early chances looking for the all-important opening goal. Cameron Gordon broke through only to be smothered by the home keeper, while Lewis Owiredu skewed his cross/shot wide.
It was to be Cannons Wood who struck first, with a cross from the right nudged in at the far post by the head of Adejokun. Minutes later, Cannons Wood doubled their advantage with a thunderous strike from the left.

A tactical change at half-time for CCFC saw midfielder Pete Jamieson replace Gordon, with Julian Austin pushed up front.
However, any hopes of a comeback were quashed early in the second half with a third goal for Cannons Wood. It was Adejokun who struck again – this time a simple finish while unmarked from close range. Almost immediately, the hosts added a fourth when Jack Francis’ clearance was intercepted and a Cannons player found the net with a long, swirling delivery from out wide.
Into the last five minutes, and Clapton finally got a shot off on target, which almost squirmed under the young Cannons Wood keeper, then substitute Korahn Gayle rattled the crossbar, centimetres away from his first goal for the Men’s First Team. Austin finally pulled a goal back late on to continue the team’s record run of scoring in 20 games in a row.

A night to forget – but important to remember that the team are firmly still in the play-off mix.
