Clapton CFC’s Women’s First Team earned a confident 2–0 win away at Hackney in an East London derby played in chilly autumn conditions.
After a late kick off due to an over-running youth game on the 3G at Wadham Lodge, CCFC took the lead on 35 minutes when Maria Mendonca struck from the edge of the box.
Two minutes before half-time, it was 2-0 – Leigha Bradding-Butler threading a perfectly weighted and timed through ball to Marta Boiro, who finished coolly. Manager Alice Sharpe rated it as the best we’ve scored in a while – sadly not caught on video.
It was a rather tame second half compared to previous derbies between the two sides, though Clapton remained in control. Ching Chun almost scored her first goal for the First Team while Bradding-Butler and Egle Trezzi also tested the keeper. Meanwhile Ella Bowles made a fine low save to preserve the clean sheet.
Six points and two clean sheets in the space of three days sends CCFC up to third in the table.
