Clapton CFC Women’s First Team ended their home campaign with a game of two halves against Dulwich Hamlet Reserves on Sunday afternoon.
Clapton started strongly and in the 13th minute broke the deadlock. Marta Boiro’s free-kick from the edge of the box struck the wall and Leigha Bradding-Butler was the quickest to react to the loose ball to score her 14th goal of the season.
Clapton remained the better side for much of the first half, while Dulwich remained dangerous on the break, including rattling the crossbar and being denied by goalkeeper Ella Bowles several times.
The second half saw the wind pick up and Dulwich take control of the game. In the 71st minute, the visitors found their equaliser when a well-placed corner found a Dulwich head in the box, and the ball was powered past Bowles.
There was a scare for Bowles who took a knee from an onrushing Dulwich keeper, but eventually she was able to continue.
CCFC almost clinched it themselves when sub Aimee Shaw burst through and swung a cross to Bradding-Butler at the back post, but she couldn’t quite reach it.
At the other end, Dulwich rattled the post in the 90th minute, but the draw was probably a fair result.
