The club is deeply saddened to share that member and volunteer Jason Gosling has died.
Jason was an early supporter and volunteer for CCFC, giving countless hours to the club between 2018 and 2022. He could often be found working late into the night to get the members’ newsletter just right, championing membership retention or supporting fundraising efforts for leaky clubhouse roofs.
Jason was the kind of guy who wanted to get involved; whether it was the “Lo Lo Lo” celebration, numerous comms tasks, or even an argument, he was usually right at the centre of it. He always wanted to know what was going on, and always wanted to help.
He came to football later in life, following Fulham, thanks to a housemate who worked as a groundsman there. But modern football left him cold. Jason was an early supporter of the Ebbsfleet United MyFootballClub project, drawn to the idea of fan ownership. So when Clapton came along, it just clicked. He fell in love with the ethos and the community.
Through the club, Jason built close friendships and became someone many of us were proud to call a friend. He once explained what drew him in:
“I came to football late, but for years I’d been disillusioned with the running of the game. When CCFC started up as a local fan-owned entity, I didn’t want to be on the sidelines. I wanted to see this model thrive.”
Although Jason had to step back from volunteering in more recent years due to illness, his warmth, generosity, and commitment will always be remembered. We are forever grateful for the time and energy he gave to help Clapton grow and thrive.
He will be deeply missed.
Before kick-off on Saturday, there will be a minute’s silence to mark his passing. There is a fundraiser in Jason’s memory here in aid of two charities close to his heart.
