Brimsdown vs Clapton CFC preview: Men’s first team away day back in Wormley

Brimsdown vs Clapton CFC is on Saturday, September 23 2023 at 3pm at Wormley Sports Club, Church Lane, Wormley, Broxbourne, Hertfordshire EN10 6LB

The Clapton CFC men’s first team are back in the very pleasant surroundings of Wormley Sports Club as we visit groundsharers Brimsdown.

On the first day of the season, CCFC earned a point in a very sunny day with a goalless draw at Wormley Rovers.

It’s been a frustrating few weeks with a double postponement away at Barkingside due to floodlights issues, sandwiched by a 1-1 draw at Basildon Town.

This will be our last away day for a while as we then go into four home games in a row at the Old Spotted Dog Ground.

The opposition

The old Brimsdown Rovers – famed for its former players like David Beckham and Micah Hyde – disappeared when they merged with Enfield 1893 in 2010. Three years later, Brimsdown FC was formed as a successor, playing in the Spartan South Midlands League, as well as an academy and 8 youth teams. Owner Ahmet Toygun has a five-year plan is to bring Brimsdown FC back to Enfield and own their own ground.

Previous meetings

The teams have never met before.

Form guide

Both were promoted this season after winning their respective Step 7 divisions and are now sat in ninth and tenth in the table. Brimsdown have scored 13 goals in their 4 home games so far, while CCFC are unbeaten away in the league, so it should be two well-matched, competitive sides.
