Match report // Clapton CFC Men’s First Team 2 Burnham Ramblers 3

The Clapton CFC Men’s First Team will be kicking themselves after losing at home to Burnham Ramblers.

The high-flying visitors took the lead in the sixth minute when a free-kick whipped into the box was headed in by Tom Franks. But James Briggs hauled us level from the penalty spot on 26 minutes after debutant Nico Bunduku had been hauled down from behind.

Clapton had chances to win it – not least several strong penalty appeals – but it was Burnham who went back ahead on 74 minutes, with a throughball evading the defence and Aidan Brown slamming it into the corner. Two minutes later and Burnham’s Asa Cansdale scored a looping header from a ball launched into the box.

Time was running out in search for at least a point, through it looked promising when the lead was cut on 83 minutes. A second Briggsy penalty was saved but was then bundled in from close range, credited to Fred Taylor.

Into the final minute and CCFC looked to have equalised when a corner was headed in from close range, but the referee disallowed it. And that was that – a second defeat out of the first three games.

Assistant manager Sham Darr summed it up on social media: “Gutted to lose today.. Not the start we wanted to this season. But some positive signs to build on. A long way to go but we MUST start doing better if we want to achieve our goals. Thank you for all the fans for your support today. Well done to Burnham Ramblers.”
