Clapton Community FC vs Sport London e Benfica takes place on Sunday, August 11 2024 with a 2pm kick off at the Old Spotted Dog Ground, Forest Gate, East London.

Clapton CFC Women’s First Team conclude the pre-season schedule with a home game on Sunday against last season’s champions Sport London E Benfica, which means they are now a division above us.

Seven new signings have joined the squad and this will be the seventh friendly, including the trip to Madrid and some eye-catching wins against higher opponents. The 2024/25 season finally gets underway at home to Actonians Reserves the following Sunday (August 18).

Opposition

Our visitors are affiliated with the world famous Sport Lisboa e Benfica. Last season they pipped Brentford to the title and one promotion spot, having risen up the lower leagues very quickly before that. The men’s team folded around a decade ago but reformed two years ago in the Middlesex County Football League Combination and have won back-to-back promotions. The club also have youth football and futsal teams.

We’ve not been able to find any of SLE Benfica’s friendly results. For CCFC, we’ve lost to CD Independiente de Vallecas, Barking and Leyton Orient, and beaten Welling United, Sutton United and Enfield Town.

Previous meetings

We’ve played The Eagles four times in league games and have yet to win – in several games losing late on. Two seasons ago we lost 2-1 away and drew 0-0. Last season we lost 2-1 away again and then 3-2 at home. This will be our first friendly meeting.
