The Clapton CFC Women’s First Team are back on the road in the FA Cup on Sunday, a competition that means a huge deal to our club.
We made history in 2021/22 as the lowest ranked team ever to reach the third round and the first ever to knock out a team four divisions higher.
After a disappointing start to the league campaign so far, this is a chance to kickstart the season and make some new FA Cup memories.
We travel to Hertfordshire for our 13th away tie in the 18 FA Cup games in our history. Our opponents are at the same level as us after promotion last season.
Note this game is definitely at Herts Sports Village near Hatfield – not at the venue listed on FA Full-Time or on the home club’s website.
About the opposition
AFC Welwyn play in the Eastern Region Women’s Football League Division One South – that’s the same tier 6 level as us – having been promoted following an unbeaten season in the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Women’s Football League.

Hertfordshire Sports Village is on the outskirts of Hatfield and part of the University of Hertfordshire de Havilland campus.
It’s a 45 minute walk from Hatfield Station, or a 1hr 15 minute walk from St Albans City Station, but you can catch a bus to the campus from either.
