Clapton CFC Over 35s end of season update

What a season it’s been – our very first in the Essex Veterans League Division 3 West. We finished third in the table, but narrowly missing out on promotion with only the top two teams going up. Considering this was our debut season at this level, what we achieved so far is something we’re incredibly proud of.

While goals have sometimes been hard to come by, we’ve built our campaign on a rock-solid defence, with one of the lowest goals conceded per game records in the league. We’ve made ourselves tough to beat and we’ve never lost a game at home at Wadham Lodge in Walthamstow, which is what kept us right in contention.

This season has been all about collective effort. Every single one of us has played our part, and that togetherness has been the foundation of everything we’ve achieved so far.

Off the pitch, we’re just as strong. As a fully self-funded team, we’re proud to be running with a healthy surplus – proof that the hard work behind the scenes is paying off too.

We’ve got an exciting friendly lined up against Coppermill Swifts at the Old Spotted Dog on Friday, May 8. Kick-off is at 7pm, and the bar will be open until 11pm – so come down, enjoy a pint, and support the team. Entry is free and donations are more than welcome.

Looking further ahead, the squad will be travelling to Berlin on May 30 for their annual international trip, following previous memorable visits to Dublin and Glasgow.  This year’s international fixture will be against Roter Stern Berlin (Red Star Berlin), and is promising to be another memorable occasion on and off the pitch.
