A dominant second-half display from promotion-chasing Bromley saw Clapton CFC Women’s First Team fall to a 4-0 defeat on the Hayes Lane outer pitch.
A disciplined CCFC defensive display kept Bromley quiet for the first half – and on the occasions they were breached, Ella Bowles was in great form.
CCFC grew into the game attacking-wise late in the half too. First Marta Boiro fired just wide in the 45th minute, then the Bromley keeper had to be brave to dive at the feet of Maria Mendonca just before the whistle.
However, the stalemate lasted only three minutes into the second half when Bromley’s Melanie Espinosa found the net with a calm finish inside the box. From then on, the home side looked comfortable.
In the 55th minute, Bromley doubled their lead with a stunning strike from distance from the division’s top scorer Beth Hull that gave Bowles no chance. Five minutes later, it was three. Bowles produced another fine initial save, but the rebound fell kindly for Espinosa to tuck home her second.
CCFC struggled to break for much of the half, though Leigha Bradding-Butler remained a threat and her audacious lob sailed agonisingly over the bar.
The scoring was rounded off in the 88th minute when Espinosa completed her hat-trick. No shame in losing to a very good team but disappointing after such a positive first half.
Next up – two home games on the next two Sundays!
