The plans to restore the neighbouring Spotted Dog listed pub were approved at Newham Council’s strategic development committee this week.
Highpride Properties has been granted permission to renovate the Grade 2-listed building which will also see two blocks of 22 flats and an apartment hotel built on the remainder of the site.
The good news is the borough’s oldest secular building will be refurbished at last, with the original Tudor and Victorian elements being saved and restored, but the bad news being no social housing is included in the plan.
Many of the design concerns we raised earlier in the process have been taken on board, such as building orientation, access routes and how the site connects with our facilities.
However, the club was not in a position to either support or oppose the latest plan as it was not made aware of the recent re‑consultation.
