The Clapton CFC’s Men’s First Team extended their fine run of form with a fifth win in a row to move up to third in the Eastern Counties Football League Division One South table.
Despite a strong opening half for Clapton – with Cameron Gordon blasting against the post and Fred Taylor, Nathan Cook and James Briggs going close – the breakthrough goal just wouldn’t come. Finally, in the 44th minute, Taylor was on hand to turn in Flavien Stierlen’s low cross from close range for his 11th goal of the season.

It was the least CCFC deserved from a dominant first half showing – but the game soon changed as the hosts took control in the second half. May & Baker forced Jack Francis into action several times, including smothering a one-on-one and keeping out a low snapshot.
Thankfully on the counter, Clapton struck again on the hour mark, when substitute Tami Unuefa – back from university for the weekend – reacted quickest to a loose ball in the box.

From then on it was a more comfortable game, and in stoppage time Nathan Cook added a touch of class, coolly lobbing the goalkeeper.
