Match preview // Histon vs Clapton CFC Women’s First Team // 21.09.25

Histon vs Clapton Community FC is on Sunday, September 21 2025 at 2pm at Bridge Road, Impington, Cambridge CB24 9PH

The Clapton CFC Women’s First Team travel to Cambridgeshire with a formidable FA Cup underdog mission.

Our historic run in 2021/22 – the lowest ranked team ever to reach the third round, remember – was based on unlikely away wins, culminating in knocking out a team four divisions higher. And we’ll need all that spirit as we visit Histon, who have a 100 percent record this season.

The surroundings – a venue has hosted football at a much higher level in the recent past – may help provide some inspiration. It will be a big contrast to the last round’s game in a 3G cage. If you can get there, despite the travel issues, to cheer on the team, please do.

The winners of this Second Qualifying Round tie will receive £3000 prize money with £750 going to the losers.

About the opposition

Histon as a club was founded in 1904 as Histon Institute, hence their nickname of the Stutes. Its men’s team reached the Conference in the mid-2000s – an amazing achievement for a village team – but are now back at Step 5. There’s not much out there on the history of the women’s team but they finished runners-up in the ERWFL Division One North last season losing just two matches – both against champions Harpenden Town. New manager Darren Marjoram, formerly of tier 4 side Cambridge United, will aim to get them over the line this time, and has already won all six games.

Form guide

It’s hard to mention Histon’s form without repeating stats already mentioned above, but basically they have won 9 games in a row across the two seasons. Clapton meanwhile have 3 wins and 2 defeats so far this season.

Previous meetings

None.

Player/s to watch

Striker Evie Nicholls has 9 goals in 6 games so far, including two goals in the last round. She was second top scorer in the division last season with 19.

Admission

Standard admission is £5. It’s £3 for concessions and U16s free. Card payment is preferred but cash is accepted.

Transport

Travelling by public transport from London to Impington on Sunday is an absolute mission due to rail replacement buses between Royston and Cambridge. You’d then need to catch a bus from Cambridge to Impington.
