Match preview // Stansted vs Clapton CFC Men’s First Team // 06.09.25

Stansted vs Clapton Community FC takes place on Saturday, September 6 2025 with a 3pm kick off at Hargrave Park, Cambridge Road, Stansted Mountfitchet, Essex CM24 8BX

It’s a clash of two promotion chasers on Saturday as Clapton CFC Men’s First Team head to Stansted.

CCFC have had 8 out of 10 games at home so far this season. Meanwhile Stansted have played all their 8 games away as their home ground is shared with the local cricket team. So it’s going to be an unusual experience for both sides.

Geoff Ocran’s team have moved up into the play-off spots and have won both their away games this season and four in a row all in all. So they will look to carry on that run against a strong, free-scoring Stansted side who are only a few points behind.

About the opposition

The Airportmen formed in 1902 and have played at Hargrave Park since 1937. They won the FA Vase at Wembley in 1984, beating Stamford 3-2 in front of 8000 spectators. They won the Essex Senior League title in 2010, with a certain Dwight Gayle leading the goalscoring charts, but were denied promotion due to ground grading issues. Having been laterally moved between the Spartan South Midlands League and ESL for a few seasons, they were relegated to our division last season.

Form guide

It’s been a good start to the season for Stansted – particularly considering all their games have been away – with 3 wins and a draw from 6 games. They’ve scored 12 goals in those games so it should be an entertaining game.

Previous meetings

This will be our second visit to Hargrave Park. Last season, we won there 2-1 in the FA Vase, with Fred Taylor scoring both our goals.

Players to watch

Nathan Scarborough, formerly of Halstead Town, Saffron Walden Town and Hullbridge Sports, is leading the way with 3 goals so far this season. Both Daniel Jones and Michael Mignot have 1 goal in 2 games record at this level too – Jones for the likes of May & Baker, Barkingside, Cannons Wood and Sporting Bengal United, and Mignot for West Essex, Wormley Rovers and Cannons Wood.
