Hoddesdon Town vs Clapton Community FC takes place on Saturday, December 23 2023 with a 3pm kick off at Lowfield Sports Ground Hoddesdon Hertfordshire EN11 8PX
The Clapton CFC men’s first team have one more game before Christmas as they visit Hoddesdon Town on Saturday.
Geoff Ocran’s team ground out a 1-0 win last weekend against Brimsdown to return to the top of the table – although many teams can leapfrog if they win games in hand.
It’s the penultimate game of 2023, with just a trip to Enfield Borough to come on Saturday, December 30.
Hoddesdon Town was established in 1879 and started playing at its current Low Field ground in 1882. The highlight of the club’s history must be winning the FA Vase at Wembley in front of 9500 spectators in the competition’s first ever season, 1974/75. In recent seasons they’ve flitted between the Essex Senior League and the Spartan South Midlands League but were relegated from the latter to the Eastern Counties League this season.
Despite being near the foot of the table, their form isn’t too bad at all. They’ve drawn with promotion challengers Hutton, Cannons Wood and Benfleet in recent weeks.
We drew 0-0 in a rather poor game at the Old Spotted Dog Ground earlier in the season – which was our first ever meeting.
