Joint statement by Clapton Community FC and the Old Spotted Dog Ground Trust

The Charity Commission has now published its long awaited report on Newham Community Leisure Trust after a decade-long investigation which began in 2013.

Newham Community Leisure Trust was the charity that previously held a lease on the Old Spotted Dog Ground until 2019 when that lease was terminated.

The Charity Commission report makes numerous serious criticisms of both Newham Community Leisure Trust and its relationship to a football club that was one of the previous tenants. The report is available here.

We want to reassure local people that the criticisms raised by the Charity Commission result from decisions and actions taken over the two decades before our ownership.

The Old Spotted Dog Ground has, since 2020, been owned freehold by Clapton Community Football Club.

It is managed and maintained by the Old Spotted Dog Ground Trust, a registered charity, for the benefit of the local community.

Neither Clapton Community FC nor the Old Spotted Dog Ground Trust has any relationship or association with Newham Community Leisure Trust, its trustees or the clubs that rented the ground from it.
