We are sad to announce Chris Woolgar is stepping down from his role as manager of Clapton Community FC Men’s Over 35s following the conclusion of the team’s inaugural season.
Everyone at the club would like to place on record our sincere thanks and appreciation for Chris’s hard work, dedication and leadership throughout a hugely successful first campaign in the Essex Veterans League.
Taking charge of a brand new side was never going to be an easy task, but Chris led the squad with a calm and steady presence throughout the season. Under his guidance, the team finished an impressive third place, remaining in the fight for promotion right up until the final day of the campaign.
That success was built on strong foundations, with the side developing one of the league’s strongest defensive records — finishing with the second-best defensive line in the division. It reflected the organisation, discipline and collective spirit that Chris brought to the team from day one.
Managing an Over 35s side also comes with the difficult challenge of balancing competitiveness with ensuring players receive meaningful minutes on the pitch. Chris handled that responsibility with fairness and integrity, always putting the team first and creating an environment that prioritised togetherness over individualism. Most importantly, Chris helped establish a strong culture and spirit within the squad that will leave a lasting impact on the group moving forward.
We are delighted that Chris will remain with the squad next season as assistant manager and as a player, ensuring his experience, leadership and presence will continue to play an important role both on and off the pitch.
