It’s East London derby time on Sunday for the Clapton CFC Women’s First Team as we head back to our old stamping ground of Walthamstow.
About the opposition
Hackney WFC was the first totally women-run team and the first out lesbian team in the country, at a time of Thatcher and section 28. It’s coming up to its 40th anniversary next year and their kit includes the club’s slogan, ‘Playing with Pride since 1986’. Its Reserves team are in the same division as our Reserves.

Hackney sit three points behind us, so a win would bring them level. They’ve registered two wins, against Soccer Elite Football Academy and Ashford United, and their defeats have all been by one goal, including against leaders Hammersmith and second placed Actonians Res.
Previous meetings
Overall, it’s been 5 CCFC wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats. Last season’s away game finished 2-2 thanks to a last-minute equaliser while at home we won 3-0 in a midweek night game. We also played in the L&SERWFL Trophy at the OSD, winning 2-0. The previous season it was a 3-1 win at the OSD but we lost the return game 4-2 on the Wadham Lodge 3G. We also won 1-0 there in the Capital Women’s Cup. The season before that we won 2-0 at their then home at the Douglas Eyre Centre in Walthamstow but lost the return game 2-1 at the OSD.

Wadham Lodge is a 31 minute walk from Walthamstow Central station. Turn onto Hoe Street and follow the road all the way along (past the junction with The Bell pub) until Chingford Lane. Continue past Sir George Monoux 6th Form College and take the first right onto Brookscroft Road then left onto Kitchener Road.
