The Clapton CFC Men’s First Team battled back from 2-0 down against an impressive Brimsdown side to start the away league campaign with a win.
The Brimsdown breakthrough came on 28 minutes when a deflected pass found striker Devine Samuel, who confidently slotted the ball into the bottom left corner. Momentum stayed with the hosts and on 42 minutes they doubled their lead through Samuel again who was set clear and finished clinically.
At that point, no one in the ground could have foreseen CCFC going in level at half-time. But that’s what happened after Fred Taylor scored from close range from a knock-down from Tami Unuefa on 44 minutes. And three minutes into added time, Sam Cook‘s low shot from around 25 yards took a deflection to beat the keeper.
The game swung further in CCFC’s favour on the 65 minute mark when Brimsdown captain Max Montgomery received a straight red card for what seemed to be off-the-ball incident.
Just three minutes later, what would prove to be the winner arrived from a James Briggs corner. That man Cook rose high to head powerfully into the top left.
10-man Brimsdown still went all out for an equaliser but with the last kick of the game it was nearly four. Andre Odeku rattled the inside of the post with a low shot that then spun and rebounded off the other post.
