Clapton Cageys FC score a promotion and some silverware

In a thrilling end to the season, the Clapton Cageys FC Beginner 5-a-side team won the Super5’s Division 5 League, securing a promotion and some silverware for the OSD’s growing collection.

After many late evenings at Mabley Green, the team’s hard work and dedication over the weeks paid off with a five-nil win against Flakes FC. The deciding 40 minutes were a blur of nerves and excitement, as the team gave every last bean to hold onto our small lead against Leon FC.

With a couple of goals from Lucy and Ramona in quick succession, we entered half-time in a good position, but in no way complacent. A few words of wisdom from our award-winning coach at half time helped the Cageys continue to find their groove, with Lucy scoring again, this time from a volley, and Beth planting another two in the net.

The clean sheet wouldn’t have been possible without Alice’s solid defending and Jenn’s safe pair of hands in goal. All season, the duo has kept the shots at bay and even had a few cracks at scoring, too.

Amongst all the excitement was a touch of sadness as we said goodbye to our goalkeeper, Jenn, whose throws down the pitch and fashion remain unrivalled. But we look forward to kicking off the next season with new Cageys on board and new teams to face.

It’s been a great season, with highs, lows and lots of cameos – but we made it to the top. A massive thank you to the legendary Julie Leaff for her dedication, even on the cold and rainy nights, and a big shout-out to all the Cageys who couldn’t play in the final and our extended CCFC family on the sidelines who cheered us on.
