Record attendance for Clapton CFC women’s first team in defeat against FC St. Pauli

Thanks to all who attended the special international friendly game against FC St. Pauli women’s first team at the Old Spotted Dog Ground.

Our visitors, playing several levels above, were a class act and some of their goals were unreal. Despite the 8-1 defeat, it was a committed performance and an amazing atmosphere created by our record women’s team crowd of 775. That was comfortably above the 500 who saw the game against Ashford in the Women’s FA Cup last year, which was a capacity crowd as we operated on a restricted attendance.

Marta Boiro scored the only Clapton CFC goal with the rebound from a penalty which struck the bar. Debate raged afterwards about whether it should have been ruled out for a double touch, or if it took a slight deflection off the keeper on the way out.

Either way it was a goal, to bring it back to 6-1, and it sparked wild celebrations on and off the pitch.

Afterwards, after the lo lo los shared between both sets of players, we said a sad final farewell to head coach Claudio Gomes, who is moving on after several seasons of success.

If you have any video clips of the night, please email them to comms@claptoncfc.co.uk as we’re trying to piece together some highlights.
