A message from Clapton CFC women’s first team defender Annie Lyons

Annie Lyons is on the road to recovery after a horrible injury last month and she wanted to write this message to members and supporters…

Thank you to all the CCFC family for your well wishes following my injury in October.

The card I received, signed from you all, is now proudly framed and a good reminder to do my physio exercises properly because I have something amazing to get back to.

I broke my ankle in the warm-up before the Hackney game and after surgery it is now healing well. I can walk in a boot now, so I will hopefully be hobbling round the OSD very soon.

I feel incredibly lucky to play alongside teammates who were able to expertly and calmly respond to my injury and get me safely to hospital. A special shout-out to Lucy Spours who managed to remove the boot from my swollen ankle and score the opening goal against Hackney all within the space of about 30 minutes.

It will be a while before I’m back on the pitch, but I don’t think you will miss me too much given the strength of our defensive options. You bet that I will be back eventually to show you how far a reinforced metal ankle can hoof a clearance.

Long live the NHS, and long live CCFC.
