Josh Adejokun leaves Clapton CFC to move to New York

Tricky men’s first team winger Joshua Adejokun has announced he’s leaving Clapton CFC to move to New York.

Josh is the only player to score in a competitive match in each of the five seasons that CCFC have been in existence.

Perhaps his high point was scoring a hat-trick to seal promotion against FC Roast in front of 1,266 spectators.

He also scored in his final game, in the win away at Camden United on Saturday, and also picked up the player of the match award.

His career record is 32 goals in 87 competitive games. With 4 goals in 13 friendly games too, that means he pulled on the CCFC shirt 100 times in total.

After the Camden game, he told visiting supporters:

It’s an emotional one, I can’t lie. I remember the first pre-season game, it was a funny one because I wasn’t even supposed to come down.

I came back from uni, Geoff knew I wanted to play a bit of football, so he asked ‘do you fancy a game?’

This was in Clacton-on-Sea I think (against Holland FC). Although we got absolutely destroyed that game, the fans just kept on singing the whole game.

So I begged Geoff, ‘can I stay permanently?’

I just want to say a massive thank you to the fans, the players, the coaching staff, the members, because you guys have given me the best footballing memories of my life.

I’ve never felt so much for a club before. I’m going to miss everyone here. I’m going to miss the fans and the community.

But this isn’t a farewell, it’s a see you later.

Paying tribute after the Camden game, player-manager Geoff Ocran said:

He’s been a massive part from the start. Josh is one of the players who understands on and off the field what Clapton is about.

He knew the start, any sort of event we’re doing, Josh is there at the forefront and encouraging players to attend.

Josh has been very important in bridging the gap from the first season. He’s going to be sadly missed but we wish him well.

In his post announcing his move on Friday night, Josh wrote:

It’s with a heavy heart that I inform everyone that I’ll be moving away to New York for a new job at the end of the month.

I’m gutted that I won’t be around with this amazing team to win the league this season and continue climbing the levels.

This club, the fans, members, means so much to me and it’s been a massive honour to put on the shirt and play for for such a club right from the very first pre-season game until now.

We’ve achieved so much over the years and I have no doubt with the squad of players and great management team, we can continue to reach greater heights.

I would like to thank all the Clapton CFC fans/members for all the love and continuous support from day one. Not to mention giving me my greatest moment in front of 1200 fans!

This Saturday will be my last game so I will say my goodbyes to most of you then. I’m forever Clapton CFC and you’ll see me whenever I’m back in town.

Everyone at CCFC wishes Josh a very successful time in New York.
