As Elon Musk’s Twitter continues to deteriorate, nearly 1000 Clapton CFC Twitter followers have closed their accounts in the last month or so. Others are clearly using it far less frequently.
CCFC quitting Twitter completely isn’t an option at the moment (without requiring lots more Comms volunteers or lots more work from the existing pool). This is because the Men’s First Team’s league mandates the use of Football Web Pages for match updates, which triggers automated tweets. However, FWP are trialling some posts for some teams on Bluesky instead, so this may change soon.
Separately, we are trialling match updates on WhatsApp, Telegram and Bluesky.
We are also able to reduce our presence on Twitter outside of first team matches.
You will find more Clapton content elsewhere. For instance, there’s a new ‘On This Day’ throwback feature, which is on Bluesky, Instagram and Threads but not on Twitter.
The more people follow and engage with the club on our other channels, the more it makes sense for us to direct our limited volunteer time there.
After Twitter, Instagram is our biggest social channel – follow us here – and we try to post things there first. In recent weeks we’ve started posting full-time results, post-match interview and goal clips. There’s also updates from our Reserves, Development, 5s, Youth and Under 35s teams. We’ve also moved the player of the match polls from Twitter to Instagram.
Bluesky
Clapton CFC were one of the first football clubs on Bluesky and we’re approaching 3000 followers. It’s the closest thing to Twitter and it’s one of the fastest growing apps in the world at the moment. Follow us here.
Threads
We’re on Threads – follow us here. Although we have several thousand followers, we don’t get a lot of likes or replies to our posts. If you’re on there, engage with us, so we know that it’s worth pursuing spending time posting on there.
We’re still on Facebook – follow us here – and post regularly.
As mentioned above, we are trialling live match updates from Men’s and Women’s First Team matches on WhatsApp. Follow them here.
Telegram
The same match updates also appear on this Telegram channel. We also have a club Telegram broadcast channel for non-match related content here.
Football Web Pages
You can follow live updates on all Men’s First Team games on Football Web Pages, which is also available as an app for Apple or Android.
We have requested that the Women’s First Team league is also added to the app but that’s unlikely this season.
Club website
This website is pretty good, even if we do say so ourselves, and there’s usually a couple of articles posted each day. So do keep visiting.
Members’ newsletter
Our 1,500 members receive a newsletter each week packed with club news and community updates. To receive it, you’ll need to become a member, which starts at £5 per year.
YouTube
Our post-match interviews and match highlights are posted to our YouTube channel here first, along with the occasional goal clip.
TikTok
We post only sporadically on here at the moment – follow us here.
